It is a pleasure for me to welcome you to the first J.M. McKellar Cattle Co. Production Sale. Morris McKellar and his family have established a breeding program that is based on producing bulls for their commercial customers. The expansion of the bull market at McKellar Angus over the past couple years has been remarkable, new customers and repeat buyers alike have created this increased demand.

After traveling the country searching for his base genetics Morris purchased several hundred females from Connealy Angus in Whitman, Nebraska. The Connealy program has long been a source of calving ease and performance genetics for all segments of the breed, commercial producers, bull studs, and registered breeders alike. The Connealy annual bull sale continues to set records as the demand for Connealy genetics continues to grow.

The McKellar family has systematically and patiently bred the base herd of proven Connealy genetics to the top proven AI sires available. The result has been a breeding program that is producing outcross genetics with breed leading calving ease and performance blended with cutting edge carcass genetics, in a wonderful phenotypic package.

The cow herd at J.M. McKellar Cattle Co. is selected and culled on production and phenotype as well as EPD’s. It is truly a treat to ride through the pastures here, and see one cow after another that looks just alike, long, deep, thick and feminine. The maternal superiority of the Angus female is evident in this cow herd and maternal genetics has always been a selection tool for the McKellar Family.

Morris and Joseph McKellar have become true students of the breed and this has enabled them to identify bulls such as Connealy Onward early, and use him heavily in their program. Be sure and look up the Onward calves selling. Morris had the foresight to purchase a large quantity of Onward semen when it was available and Onward will have a big influence in the McKellar program.

Morris, Betsy, Joseph and Jamie McKellar are great people that are totally dedicated the McKellar program and the Angus breed. If you do not already know them make it a point to do so and ask them about their breeding program. June 9 will be a tremendous opportunity for established and new breeders alike to acquire proven outcross genetics from one of the outstanding breeding programs in the nation.
